Ricci-Lee Hotz, MS, RDN, presented for the Bridge Dance Project at Colorado Dance Educators Organization’s virtual conference which was focused on dance and health education for both dancers and dance educators at the end of January. In this presentation, she discussed the importance of “fueling the dancer,” covering the benefits of different food groups, how to combine them for best performance and energy, the importance of timing and refueling during performances, practice, or conventions, and lastly, the importance of loving your body and positive body image without food restriction, especially as a dancer. The handout in the image above, provides a list of snack ideas and tips as well as hydration ideas to help provide adequate fuel for the dancer in training, competing, and performing scenarios, while preventing the dancer from feeling over full, bloated or lethargic when they need to feel their best.
